Where Wellness Meets Bliss

Dear friends,

It is with sadness that we announce Kyle is on an extended hiatus while dealing with a serious medical condition called Tinnitus. This condition ranges from mild to very severe and unfortunately Kyle is dealing with a severe case. Here is an article Kyle shared with us to explain how this condition feels http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7175306.stm

Kyle has coped with tinnitus for most of his adult life. That along with TMJ issues are what got him involved in the profession of healing work, but the tinnitus has progressed into a more severe condition. He is no longer able to predict when he will have adequate rest to give his best healing work. Kyle is on a hiatus to try and get it back to a manageable level, or find a way to cope with the increase in volume.

Below you will find a link to “Tinnitus Awareness Week” that we feel is important. Because of earbuds (too much loud headphone use basically), compressed audio/mp3 technology (which distorts sound), increasingly loud environments in the world, and an increase in pharmaceutical use and antibiotics across the board that cause ototoxicity (ear/hearing damage), they are predicting a large increase in tinnitus cases in the future. There is no cure at this time. There are at least 10-20 more years before a stem cell regeneration treatment is available to restore hearing function and/or get rid of tinnitus. People with it have to endure until then.

Some people suffer mildly, and some very severely. Kyle’s case has grown severe within the past few months. It is a very debilitating condition that progresses with age. It cannot be easily cognitively escaped from, harder to ignore than pain. When a person has gotten ringing in their ear for hours or days, it means unrecoverable hearing damage and could become permanent, and could mean deafness, tinnitus or a combination of the two. Most people do get tinnitus from sound exposure alone, so hearing protection/earplugs is essential for the long-term.

Kyle has been an amazing person to work with, facilitating profound healing in many  clients.  We began this journey with Sensorielle together 6 years ago.  We have shared so much in healing and growing through this journey together.  He has been like a brother to me and my heart goes out to him.  We will be holding Kyle in our thoughts and prayers, and hope that you do the same.  We sincerely hope Kyle has a fast recovery and are ready to welcome him back to the Sensorielle family when he sees better health.

Sincerely,
Jewl Petteway, Owner

Top 10 Ways To Celebrate Earth Day
Article reposted from recyclingcenters.org

Earth Day is a time to celebrate the gains we have made in protecting the environment, but also a time to reflect and ask, “How can we do more?”. The Top 10 list below is a call to action and is meant to stimulate additional discussions about what we as individuals and communities can do to help protect our planet.

1. Educate Yourself.
The number one thing you can do is simply to educate yourself about the issues. You cannot act and you cannot call others to action until you understand the facts. So spend some time researching issues such as Global Warming, Recycling, Energy Consumption, etc…

2. Create Awareness.
Once you educate yourself, tell a friend, tell a co-worker, tell a family member or even tell a stranger! Creating awareness among others one person at a time is a wonderful way to spread the Green movement.

3. Recycle.
Recycling is one of the best ways to help the environment. Recycling reduces garbage in landfills, reduces carbon emissions by reducing manufacturing and transportation emissions and enables our Earth’s natural resources to be more evenly distributed among the world’s population.

4. Get involved in Politics.
We need our government to legislate change requiring businesses to engage in Green behavior as well as to fund the development of renewable energy. To this end, we need elected officials pushing the Green agenda. Vote for politicians who share the same Green values as you.

5. Drive Less.
Carbon emissions from vehicles are one of the leading causes of Global Warming. Drive less by walking, cycling, using public transportation and car pooling. Not only does it help the environment – it saves you money and improves your health.

6. Use Fuel Efficient Vehicles.
Most people still have to drive. Using fuel efficient vehicles can reduce carbon emissions and oil consumption by 50%. Drive a hybrid, small car, motorcycle or scooter. It will reduce carbon emissions and your gasoline bill!

7. Use Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs).
CFLs use 75% less energy than standard light bulbs and last 10 times longer. That saves energy which reduces energy consumption which reduces green house emissions.

8. Monitor the Temperature
Turn up your thermostat in the summer and down in the winter. Every degree you adjust can reduce your energy consumption by up to 1% which also reduces your utility bill.

9. Turn Them Off!
Simply turn off lights, computers, TVs and other appliances when not using them. Sounds simple, but it is effective. Most people simply do not think to shut things off when not in use.

10. Water Conservation.
Fresh water shortages are becoming increasingly common. Conserve water by showering instead of bathing, using water efficient toilets and washing machines, turning off the water when brushing your teeth, and by collecting rain water for your garden.

All of the actions listed above can help the environment in numerous ways. In addition, most help us as individuals and communities as well. Almost all of the actions above save us money through reduced energy and water consumption which saves money on utility bills, gasoline bills, etc… So help the environment and help yourself through the actions above.

Sarah G is leaving us!  Her last day will be November 11.  So if you want to request our lovely lady for a massage, please call asap.  We will miss Sarah.  She’s been with us for a long time now :(   303.247.9932 http://www.sensoriellespa.com

I rarely ever pamper ever myself so getting a facial was a treat and something new.  For many years, I had struggled with acne and had tried everything—salicylic acid, benzoaic peroxide, antibiotics, retinol A, and almost every store brand that claimed to treat and prevent acne.  When I would purchase a product, I would rarely look at the ingredients and if I couldn’t pronounce the ingredients it didn’t make a difference in whether or not I purchased the product.

I had scheduled a facial at Sensorielle Spa and one of the first things that was brought to my attention was that my axle mantle had been stripped of my natural oils. In my desperation for clear skin, I had used too many harsh products simultaneously.   Theesthetician explained that when your axle mantle is chemically stripped of natural oil, acne is more likely to develop. She also explained that some moisturizers and chemicals can leave a “film” or leftover chemical debris (which can contribute to aging and/or have been linked to harmful side effects).

She explained that she was going to use an Ayurvedic based product line called Helena Meyers (made right here in Boulder!) Unlike products, I had used before, there was no burning sensation from the chemicals, there was not a “film”, and the products didn’t foam.

The products were made of  organic honey, milk, healing herbs and felt completely  nourishing.  After years of using harsh chemicals, this was exactly what my skin needed. Post facial, my skin felt amazing and full of moisture.  Since my facial, my interest in what goes into our beauty products has heightened, and/or I have been more aware of what I purchase and how certain products can influence one’s overall being and the environment.
