Joy received her skin care education at The National Esthetics   Institute in Arizona.  With over 20 years of experience, she has learned that it’s not only what products you use, but what you eat and feed your body as a whole. As a result, Joy has an affinity towards natural and holistic skin care. She has a innate gift with her hands and has an extremely nurturing quality to her touch, caring for each client with an adept and gentle approach.

An avid hiker, Joy moved to Colorado in 2009 and has explored many of the paths around town, as well as many of the state’s scenic   areas and hidden gems. Her love of art, music, and dance has found numerous outlets here. A nurturer of mind and body, Joy is a strong devotee of living foods and believes this is reflected in the vitality of the whole body as well as the skin.

Well, let me tell you how I loved it,  and how relaxed I felt plus looking and feeling YOUNGER and clean. I was hooked and that wonderful experience  led me to signing up for aesthetic school. ( my past was p.r.and advertising and single mom). And now my skin ,as my peers tell me, look ten years younger and I’m a believer in the benefit of facials.

So let me tell you what a typical facial protocol is:  usually 55 to 60 minutes.

D. Extractions if necessary. You can tell them not to extract. 99% of clogged skin are removed from great exfoliation. No pain at all.
E. Relaxing massage of face, neck,shoulders, back, hands and feet.
F. Mask to treat conditions
G. Serum To treat conditions
H. Moisturizer

A great facialist would never embarrass you or make you feel bad about your skin, but would lovingly educate you on how to improve your skin. I think we are therapists sometimes because we listen a lot and are non judgmental but create an atmosphere where you feel safe and comforted.

P.S. Extra tip for great skin: if you have oily skin, don’t over exfoliate and wash it too often. When your skin is dried out from above, it tells your skin to produce more oil. Ugh!

Easy tips to correct or eliminate most zits or acne!!

Think of your skin as a garden. If you are a rose bush or a tomato bush, and your leaves or flower/fruits get holes in them it could be one or two things:

Internal problems or external problems , right?

The same thing with your face and body. Acne, zits, irritations can be caused by internal and/or external factors. So as I tell my clients let’s find the cause. Let’s be the DETECTIVE! And then eliminate the culprits for great skin!

Possible Internal Causes

1. Food allergies – milk, cheese, gluten, nuts, etc. Go without one product at
   a time ( 2 weeks) and see if better. If not, eliminate another etc.
2. Toxins – from pesticides in foods; chemicals in skin care products, work,
       atmosphere etc. Go organic with foods and topical products.
       When you have toxins internally your liver and kidneys are working
        overtime to remove them causing breakouts, acne on face and body.
3. Hormones – especially in teenagers (boys especially) and pre-menopausal
        women. See doctor who doesn’t believe in chemicals or drugs as first
        approach.

Possible External  Causes

1. Bacteria on sheets,  pillow cases, cell phones, helmets, bands around head,
    hats, shampoos with suds. Wash often in organic. Cleanse cell phones
     weekly with alcohol. Turn over pillow cases.
2. Kissing – a lot of beards, mustaches have bacteria and cause acne. So
      wash before and after and enjoy kissing! Get your mate to wash too.
3. Working out – high levels of humidity and sweating cause acne on back.
        Shower and wear dry shirt afterwards.
4. Atmosphere – smoke, dirt, chemicals in air. Wash well afterwards and
      protect face, body with mask, clothes, good mineral makeup.
5. Razors – try electric or a better brand of razor.
6. Hands on face- even if your hands are washed I bet the door handle or
       your keys are loaded with bacteria. So don’t touch your face!
7. Pencils, pens often go in your mouth while you are studying and are loaded
      with bacteria. Major clogged pores around the lips from that! Keep
      objects out of your mouth!
8.  Old makeup, eye shadow, mascara, dirty face brushes, lipstick.
       Be sure to clean brushes by wiping eyeshadow or lipstick brushes  with
       alcohol.
9. Oils from hair. When brushing, cover up your back with shirt.
10. Loofas, facial and body brushes are loaded with bacteria. Use your
       hands or clean wash cloths.

The best faces I’ve seen are from people who never touch their skin! 
bonus tip! Local honey eaten daily greatly helps control allergies. Have it in your tea or on bread (about a tablespoon daily). Be sure to use unfiltered raw local honey though.

Stefanie Pitthan, Acupuncture and Massage

Stefanie Pitthan-Garcia – Licensed Acupuncturist, Chinese Herbologist, Massage Therapist

Stefanie knew she wanted to be a healer and a teacher as a young child. She began her study of meditation when she was fifteen in Palo Alto, CA. Her style of meditation is based on the western mind, and working with energy. She completed over four years of study in meditation and esoteric work in Seattle Washington, and also received her BA in Theatre from the University of Washington with an emphasis on Physical Theatre. In the year 2000 she moved to Telluride Colorado where she attended the Connecting Point School of Massage. It was there that she began gaining experience working with athletes and continuing her practice of esoteric healing. In the fall of 2001 she began her training in Chinese Medicine in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she also discovered the wonderful practice of yoga. Due to various circumstances, her path through Chinese Medical School wound its way through San Diego, California and then finally here in Boulder, Co.

Personally she is moved by the basic tenet of Chinese medicine is the principle of “do no harm”. On many levels this philosophy has changed her life. She believes that it is a powerful style of medicine that can genuinely transform your health. It has personally helped her maintain a healthy pregnancy. She is passionate about women’s health, but also the process of pregnancy and motherhood for women. She is also skilled in working with athletes through massage and interested in furthering these skills with acupuncture. She does prefer a more gentle needling style, while still maintaining powerful results.

Her meditation and yoga practice greatly influence her massage and acupuncture and she is consistently working on her awareness of her own body and self. These greatly inspire her to help others seek a balanced and happy life in these chaotic times on our planet. She is a Taoist at heart, following the seasons of nature, and loves to share this information with any who seek it.
