10 ways to celebrate earth day

Top 10 Ways To Celebrate Earth Day
Article reposted from recyclingcenters.org

Earth Day is a time to celebrate the gains we have made in protecting the environment, but also a time to reflect and ask, “How can we do more?”. The Top 10 list below is a call to action and is meant to stimulate additional discussions about what we as individuals and communities can do to help protect our planet.

1. Educate Yourself.
The number one thing you can do is simply to educate yourself about the issues. You cannot act and you cannot call others to action until you understand the facts. So spend some time researching issues such as Global Warming, Recycling, Energy Consumption, etc…

2. Create Awareness.
Once you educate yourself, tell a friend, tell a co-worker, tell a family member or even tell a stranger! Creating awareness among others one person at a time is a wonderful way to spread the Green movement.

3. Recycle.
Recycling is one of the best ways to help the environment. Recycling reduces garbage in landfills, reduces carbon emissions by reducing manufacturing and transportation emissions and enables our Earth’s natural resources to be more evenly distributed among the world’s population.

4. Get involved in Politics.
We need our government to legislate change requiring businesses to engage in Green behavior as well as to fund the development of renewable energy. To this end, we need elected officials pushing the Green agenda. Vote for politicians who share the same Green values as you.

5. Drive Less.
Carbon emissions from vehicles are one of the leading causes of Global Warming. Drive less by walking, cycling, using public transportation and car pooling. Not only does it help the environment – it saves you money and improves your health.

6. Use Fuel Efficient Vehicles.
Most people still have to drive. Using fuel efficient vehicles can reduce carbon emissions and oil consumption by 50%. Drive a hybrid, small car, motorcycle or scooter. It will reduce carbon emissions and your gasoline bill!

7. Use Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs).
CFLs use 75% less energy than standard light bulbs and last 10 times longer. That saves energy which reduces energy consumption which reduces green house emissions.

8. Monitor the Temperature
Turn up your thermostat in the summer and down in the winter. Every degree you adjust can reduce your energy consumption by up to 1% which also reduces your utility bill.

9. Turn Them Off!
Simply turn off lights, computers, TVs and other appliances when not using them. Sounds simple, but it is effective. Most people simply do not think to shut things off when not in use.

10. Water Conservation.
Fresh water shortages are becoming increasingly common. Conserve water by showering instead of bathing, using water efficient toilets and washing machines, turning off the water when brushing your teeth, and by collecting rain water for your garden.

All of the actions listed above can help the environment in numerous ways. In addition, most help us as individuals and communities as well. Almost all of the actions above save us money through reduced energy and water consumption which saves money on utility bills, gasoline bills, etc… So help the environment and help yourself through the actions above.

Easy tips to correct or eliminate most zits or acne!!

Think of your skin as a garden. If you are a rose bush or a tomato bush, and your leaves or flower/fruits get holes in them it could be one or two things:

Internal problems or external problems , right?

The same thing with your face and body. Acne, zits, irritations can be caused by internal and/or external factors. So as I tell my clients let’s find the cause. Let’s be the DETECTIVE! And then eliminate the culprits for great skin!

Possible Internal Causes

1. Food allergies – milk, cheese, gluten, nuts, etc. Go without one product at
a time ( 2 weeks) and see if better. If not, eliminate another etc.
2. Toxins – from pesticides in foods; chemicals in skin care products, work,
atmosphere etc. Go organic with foods and topical products.
When you have toxins internally your liver and kidneys are working
overtime to remove them causing breakouts, acne on face and body.
3. Hormones – especially in teenagers (boys especially) and pre-menopausal
women. See doctor who doesn’t believe in chemicals or drugs as first
        approach.

Possible External  Causes

1. Bacteria on sheets,  pillow cases, cell phones, helmets, bands around head,
hats, shampoos with suds. Wash often in organic. Cleanse cell phones
weekly with alcohol. Turn over pillow cases.
2. Kissing – a lot of beards, mustaches have bacteria and cause acne. So
wash before and after and enjoy kissing! Get your mate to wash too.
3. Working out – high levels of humidity and sweating cause acne on back.
Shower and wear dry shirt afterwards.
4. Atmosphere – smoke, dirt, chemicals in air. Wash well afterwards and
protect face, body with mask, clothes, good mineral makeup.
5. Razors – try electric or a better brand of razor.
6. Hands on face- even if your hands are washed I bet the door handle or
your keys are loaded with bacteria. So don’t touch your face!
7. Pencils, pens often go in your mouth while you are studying and are loaded
with bacteria. Major clogged pores around the lips from that! Keep
      objects out of your mouth!
8.  Old makeup, eye shadow, mascara, dirty face brushes, lipstick.
Be sure to clean brushes by wiping eyeshadow or lipstick brushes  with
       alcohol.
9. Oils from hair. When brushing, cover up your back with shirt.
10. Loofas, facial and body brushes are loaded with bacteria. Use your
       hands or clean wash cloths.

The best faces I’ve seen are from people who never touch their skin!
bonus tip! Local honey eaten daily greatly helps control allergies. Have it in your tea or on bread (about a tablespoon daily). Be sure to use unfiltered raw local honey though.

Sending love to your beautiful face, BeeGee

Continuing with your skin as your garden, let’s make sure the soil
is correct for growing beautiful flowers…that’s the pH balance of
the soil.

Your outer skin (epidermis) is slightly acidic, a pH level of 4.6 to
6.2 (7pH is neutral like water). Bacteria thrives in an alkaline
environment (over 7ph) so in order to prevent breakouts we have to
maintain your ideal pH.

Soap, some cleansers, some toners are very alkaline so look for
products that say “balance” your pH. When your epidermis is in
balance it holds moisture (less wrinkles), holds in nutrients and
protects you from ultraviolet radiation. Yes, prevents you from
AGING! And reduce further breakouts for acne!

What can you do: look for “balance” pH in soaps, toners. Avoid
alkaline products like body soaps on your slightly acidic face.
Start using organic (non toxic) products.

Extra tip: your eyelids are the thinnest skin on your body (0.05
mm)so avoid lotions, moisturizers in that area. Use only Eye cream
so that area won’t clog and cause trouble. Remember moisturizers
seep up to lower eye, so don’t go too close.)

April is Stress Awareness Month (2011)

Sensorielle Spa offers "Briefcase Breaks" for downtown Boulder professionals!

For the 19th consecutive year, April 2011 has been designated Stress Awareness Month. During this thirty day period, health care professionals and health promotion experts across the country will join forces to increase public awareness about both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic.

Stress-related disorders comprise 50-8-  percent of all illness, though stress may not be the only cause.

There is, however, no one answer to the question “What is Stress?“, since stresses are wide-ranging and include relationship problems, financial strain, bereavement, unemployment or may be environmental such as pollution, bad housing or noise.

Symptoms of stress include increased heart-rate, nausea, muscle tension and in the long-term can lead to chronic health issues such as insomnia, depression, digestive disorders and erectile dysfunction.

It is crucial to find the right stress-health balance for lifelong wellness with a long-term stress management strategy.

Massage is one of the best forms of stress relief incorporating a monthly massage into personal wellness is an easy way to lower long term stress. It is nurturing and therapeutic, and when combined with  aromatheraputic essential oil blends, creates a healing and relaxing treatment.

Sensorielle Spa offers many treatments that aid in relaxation and rejuvenation which can be added as a complement to a stress management system. Our therapists and knowledgeable staff are happy to assist you in finding the perfect wellness treatment for your individual wellness needs.
