Rosacea: The Cause & Treatment

Rosacea is a skin disorder due to the pitta and vata imbalance. Around this time of the year, rosacea acts up more often as the heat of the summer is settled deeply in our physiology, especially the liver. This causes the pitta (fire) dosha to get out of balance.
Vata body types have naturally weaker tissues- skin, muscle, nervous system, and blood vessels. If the vata dosha is out of balance, it will over time cause a weakness of the tissues in the body, including the capillaries.
The combination of the two will cause rosacea. Thus, the “butterfly” design of red vessels in the form of a red patch on the face. This is stage one of rosacea.

In time, the weak vessels break and the area gets infected. This results in pustules that look like acne but is technically not acne. This is the final and most severe stage as it is an infection of the tissue around the broken capillaries.

The treatment with our 100% organic Rosacea products is effective, safe and pleasant. All Rosacea products contain numerous soothing, healing  and cooling herbs. In addition, helicrysum is a powerful essential oil for tissue regeneration. Combined with German chamomile, it is the perfect therapeutic treatment for rosacea. Rosacea Diet & Recommendations
Please note: Diet is extremely important in treating rosacea. Certain foods contain natural ingredients that aggravate rosacea, like histamines & tyramine.

Avoid:
*excessive heat or exposure to sun
*alcohol, incl. red wine & beer (as histamines found there aggravate rosacea)
*coffee, black tea
*smoking
*stressful deadlines
*emotional aggravation
*excessive activity or overwork
*spicy, sour food
*refined sugars
*MSG
*bananas, avocados, peppers, raisins, vanilla extract nuts
*refined carbohydrates
*hot foods
*skipping meals.  Do not skip meals.
*cold cuts, hot dogs, salami, liver
*niacin, large doses of vitamin B3
*strictly avoid:  mustard, ketchup, relishes, red meat, hot spices, chocolate, hard aged cheeses, white sugar, radish, onion, garlic, spinach, tomato – these foods are causing high acidity in the system as well as excessive heat.

Recommended Diet

These foods are especially recommended for treating rosacea.
Grains: white rice
Dairy: only organic non-homogenized milk products, making sure that there is no dairy allergy present (which often is the case in rosacea cases.) Avoid hard cheeses.
Sweeteners: birch sugar (please note: no US made xylitol since all are GMO. The only excellent brand comes from Finland p birch sugar. It is recommended even for diabetics.)
Oils: olive & sunflower oil
Fruit: sweet fruits, grapes, cherries, peaches, melons, coconut, sweet pineapple, sweet plums, mango, fresh figs, sweet berries.
Vegetables: excellent choices: asparagus, pumpkin, cucumber, celery, zucchini.
Spices: coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, fennel, small quantity of black pepper.
If not vegetarian:  organic chicken, turkey, egg whites.
Vitamins: important! Natural Vitamin C with bioflavanoids, small dosage of riboflavin (B2).

Easy Skin Care Tips 
Oh How I love Coconut Oil for My Skin!!!  July 2012

I have been cooking with coconut oil for the last 3 months and my doggies and I are feeling much better. They have more energy and their coat is softer, and my skin is more hydrated.  I’m not sure if coconut oil did it so I looked up the ingredients in coconut oil and was amazed at what it does for us!  

Coconut oils have Medium Chain Fatty Acids of Lauric Acid, Caprylic Acid, and Capric Acid. All of the these exhibit antiviral, antimicrobial,antiprotozoal and anti fungal properties. Helping to destroy fungus, bacteria and viruses!


Nutritionists, natural doctors etc. use these medium chains of fatty acids to help clear up candida (Caprylic acid and diet); herpes, measles, influenza, hepatic C, blood pressure, diabetes and even HIV (Lauric acid). Of course check with your health care provider about this.

Did you know that during World War II, coconut water was used as an emergency short-term intravenous hydration fluid because it has high levels of sugar and salts. My dogs and I love about a tablespoon of coconut oil instead of olive oil or butter to scramble eggs and to stir fry shrimps or chicken. We also love the flavor. The golden particles in the stone represented the stars in the night sky, which are actually inclusions of pyrite – the white particles are inclusions of calcite. Helena Meyer’s Ayurvedic Recommendations for Summer
General Guidelines for Balancing Pitta (Fire) Element

Ayurveda recognizes major changes during each season in the physiology, as well as the psychology. We can harmonize these influences by implementing specific routines, as well as  diet. You will find general  guidelines to balance the elements in each season. There is also a consideration  of your specific body type. Pitta is predominant during summertime when weather is hot.  Pitta (fire) governs the circulatory system, mainly the enzymes and hormones. It is responsible for digestion, pigmentation, hunger, thirst, sight etc.Physical symptoms of excess pitta are: excessive hunger and thirst, burning sensations in the skin, eyes or hands. Hypersensitivity may develop in the form of allergic rashes or fever. Psychological factors of anger, rage, hatred and jealousy may increase. There are 40 kinds of possible disturbances in the body due to loss of equilibrium of the Pitta element.

In order to balance Pitta one should follow these  recommendations:

1. Lifestyle recommendation for balancing Pitta is to avoid heating up both physically and  emotionally. This means:
Avoid being in the heat during summertime, including taking hot baths.
Avoid exercising when it’s hot.
Do not work late at night.
Avoid jobs near furnaces, fire or smoke
Avoid emotionally “hot” situations – situations that bring anger up in you.
Avoid time pressure.  Avoid  heavy exercising at any time – moderate exercise will help balance pitta.
Protect yourself from sun, heat and bright lights.
Be with happy people.  Avoid “sour” company. Unhappy people raise acidity in us.  Happiness and love alkalize our body.

2. Do not skip meals. Do not fast. Eat around noon. Do not wait to eat until you are very hungry. Delaying meals can cause excess acidity, so eat on time every day. Start your day with cooked sweet  fruit, followed by cereal that contains  no sugar. Eat a sustaining meal at lunchtime, and a lighter meal for dinner. For  snacking, choose sweet juicy fruit–fully ripe mangoes.  Sweet pears and sweet juicy grapes are excellent. Avoid using pickles, vinegar, chilies, ketchup, carbonated drinks and alcohol.

4. Stay cool in warm weather by wearing loose light colored cotton clothing. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes when you go out. Drink lots of room-temperature water.

5. Balance work and play. Play in water since this will hydrate the body, skin and emotions.

6. To soothe sensitive skin, balance the emotions and to nourish the skin and nerves, treat yourself to an ayurvedic massage in our spa in our spa. Also, every morning before you bathe or shower, use our Pitta Body Oil. You will feel cool and nourished inside and out. Spray your skin with our 100% organic Damask Rose Toner. This will protect your skin from dehydration, as well as cool it. Rose nourishes the heart and regenerates and soothes the skin. Our Pitta Skin Care regime is cooling, soothing  and hydrating, and it is perfect for you in the hot pitta season.

7. If  Pitta dosha is out of balance, you may find that you can fall asleep without much trouble, but you wake up in the very early hours and find it difficult to get back to sleep. It is important to get to bed early, so that you can get adequate rest each night. It is important to get to bed before 10 PM in order to allow adrenals to restore. An old ayurvedic “sleeping pill” is a cup of warm milk with some cardamom before bedtime.

9. It is important to allow the active pitta intellect to find deep rest in meditation each day. This will help balance the heart and emotions and strengthen the mind.
